■About Bifidobacteria
Bifidobacteria are a type of good bacteria that exist in the intestinal flora of humans and animals and have a positive effect on the health of the entire body. They mainly live in the large intestine and produce not only lactic acid but also acetic acid (short-chain fatty acid), which prevents the proliferation of bad bacteria and regulates the intestinal environment. Many studies have been conducted both in Japan and overseas, and various research reports related to human health have been published so far.
About Morinaga Milk Industry and Bifidobacteria
Morinaga Milk Industry began selling infant formula in 1921. As it continued to conduct research and development into infant formula, it noticed the difference in the intestinal bacteria between babies who drink breast milk and babies who drink infant formula, and began research into bifidobacteria in the 1960s. It discovered "Bifidobacteria BB536" in infants in 1969, and has been researching bifidobacteria and intestinal flora for over 50 years, and is the world's number one in the number of clinical research papers on human bifidobacteria*. Human bifidobacteria are originally vulnerable to acid and oxygen, making them difficult to apply to food, but in 1971 Morinaga Milk Industry was the first in Japan to successfully apply bifidobacteria to dairy products.
* According to a survey by Knowledgewire, as of January 2025 (number one in the world for the number of corporate research papers published in PubMed and Igaku Chuo Zasshi WEB)
