[New National Theater] << The definitive version of Richard Strauss's sensual impact work "Salome". Spend 100 breathtaking minutes at the Opera Palace. 》

Richard Strauss' shocking work "Salome" will appear at the Opera Palace in the New National Theater (Shibuya-ku, Tokyo). "Salome" is a scandalous masterpiece that turned Oscar Wilde's aesthetic and decadent play into an opera with richly colored music by R. Strauss. The climax, "Dance of the Seven Veils," is a show full of sensual beauty and tension, in which Salome peels off the veil she wears and performs a bewitching dance. Conducted by Trinx, who is particularly highly rated by Strauss, and featuring the world's best seasonal cast including Penda, Stoley, and Thomasson, we will convey the charm of "Salome" with the definitive production of the mysteriously beautiful Efferding.
This performance will be performed at the Sapporo Cultural Arts Theater after the performance at the New National Theater.

What Salome, a girl who danced bewitchingly, wanted… A shocking work of sensuality and perversion!

Based on an episode from the New Testament, this is a representative work by Oscar Wilde, a writer representing fin-de-siècle literature, and an opera with richly colored music by composer Richard Strauss, who reigned at the turn of the century. A scandalous masterpiece "Salome". Due to its immoral content and impact, it became a sensation throughout Europe, with measures being taken to ban performances in Vienna. A rich and sweet melody and bold dissonance are condensed on the stage of one act, and the dense drama full of tension leaves no time to breathe. The climax, "Dance of the Seven Veils," is a show full of sensual beauty and tension, in which Salome peels off the veils one by one and performs a bewitching dance.

The New National Theatre's "Salome", directed by the late August Efferding, is a masterpiece that has been performed at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich. The stage that directly conveys the power of music is recommended not only for opera fans but also for orchestra fans.

Story of "Salome"

Palace of the lord Herod, circa 30 AD. Herod's daughter-in-law, Salome, takes an interest in the prophet Johanan, who is imprisoned in an old well in the garden, and orders the captain of the guard, Narraboth, to take him out. Salome asks Johanan to kiss him, but he refuses and returns to the old well. Asked to give Herod whatever reward he desires, Salome puts on seven veils and performs a bewitching dance. The reward requested by Salome, who finished dancing, was Johanan's head.
