Crowdfunding campaign underway to support "Children's Book Forest Sapporo Hokkaido University," a children's library facility designed and built by Tadao Ando

~Currently seeking donations with a goal of 5 million yen~

In the summer of 2026, the Children's Book Forest Sapporo-Hokkaido University will open on the Hokkaido University campus.

This facility is a children's library designed and built by world-renowned architect Tadao Ando and donated to Hokkaido University, and will be operated in cooperation with the city of Sapporo and Hokkaido University.

Sapporo City is accepting donations through crowdfunding, utilizing the hometown tax system, to be used for facility operations, including purchasing books for the Sapporo Children's Book Forest and Hokkaido University library and holding events to stimulate interest in reading.

We look forward to your generous support so that we can continue to operate this facility as a place for learning and growth for the children who will be the leaders of the future.

A message from Tadao Ando

We want children, who will be the leaders of society in the future, to develop rich sensibilities and creativity through reading. With this in mind, we are continuing our efforts to create "Children's Book Forest," a facility where children can freely come into contact with picture books and children's books.

"Boys, be ambitious," a message given to young people by Dr. Clark, represents the pioneering spirit of Hokkaido and is also the foundation of the founding of Hokkaido University. We felt that this symbolic location in Sapporo was an appropriate place to create the Children's Book Forest.

I hope that as many children as possible will grow up with the ambition to take off into the world of tomorrow from here.
