"Parent-Child Railway Ride Experience Event" to be held in August and September! Two courses touring Mikasa Railway Village and Otaru City Museum Main Building.
This family-friendly railway experience event teaches how to buy tickets and train etiquette, and includes a guided tour and a steam locomotive ride. Each course is limited to 15 pairs (30 people).
The Hokkaido Railway Revitalization Council will be holding a "Parent-Child Railway Ride Experience" where parents and children can ride JR local trains and learn about the fun of railways and the importance of public transportation.
On Saturday, August 22, 2026, we will offer the "Mikasa Railway Village Course," which includes a visit to the Mikasa Railway Village, and on Saturday, September 12, 2026, we will offer the "Otaru City Museum Main Building Course," which includes a visit to the Otaru City Museum Main Building.
After learning how to buy tickets, train etiquette, and safety and courtesy at Sapporo Station, parents and children will board a JR local train. At their destinations, they will learn about the history of Hokkaido's railways and their connection to the local community while receiving explanations from a guide, and will also enjoy a ride on a steam locomotive.

Both courses begin with learning how to buy tickets and train etiquette at Sapporo Station before boarding a JR local train. The planned itinerary includes guided tours and steam locomotive rides at the destinations, offering a fun way for parents and children to learn about the history of the region and the joys of railways.
〇August 22nd (Sat) Mikasa Railway Village Course
Let's take the JR train to Mikasa Railway Village!
After learning how to buy tickets and proper train etiquette at Sapporo Station, we'll take a JR local train to Iwamizawa Station. At Mikasa Railway Village, we'll visit the Mikasa Railway Memorial Museum and learn about the history of Hokkaido's railways with a guide. A ride on the steam locomotive S-304 is also planned. This is also a great activity for summer vacation research projects.
〇September 12th (Sat) Otaru City Museum Main Building Course
Take a JR train and learn about Otaru's history and culture!
After learning how to buy tickets and proper train etiquette at Sapporo Station, we'll take a JR local train to Otaru Station. At the Otaru City Museum Main Building, we'll learn about Otaru's history, railways, industry, and culture with a guide. A ride on the SL Iron Horse steam locomotive is also planned.
