At Sapporo Excel Hotel Tokyu, a Japanese collaboration of strawberries and taiyaki is realized! Ichigo Ichie's "Japanese Afternoon Tea"
Available for a limited time from Saturday, January 17th
Sapporo Excel Hotel Tokyu (Sapporo, Hokkaido, General Manager: Mizutani Tokuyuki) 2nd floor Japanese cuisine "Karamatsu" will be offering "Japanese Afternoon Tea Miniature Garden – Strawberry ICHIGO" for a limited time from Saturday, January 17, 2026 to Sunday, April 26, 2026.
This is the fifth installment of Karamatsu's popular "Japanese Afternoon Tea" project, which has always been well-received and enjoyed by many customers. This plan, which combines the bounty of Hokkaido with the charm of Japanese culture, will be redesigned this winter to feature seasonal strawberries as a miniature garden of "Ichigo Ichie." In addition to the "Strawberry All You Can Eat" experience, where every menu item is adorned with strawberries, we have also collaborated with the beloved local shop, "Taiyaki Ikkyu Hokkaido." We hope you enjoy a special moment where you can experience Japanese food culture and the charm of the region with all five senses.
■ Taiyaki dough from "Taiyaki Ikkyu Hokkaido"
Taiyaki Ikkyu Hokkaido has three stores in Sapporo and specializes in taiyaki, made with the utmost care using only the finest ingredients and methods, under the motto of "giving your body and mind a relaxing break." Their taiyaki dough is a departure from the traditional "thin, crispy" or "soft" textures of pastries, featuring a new texture that's crisp on the outside and chewy on the inside. Their adorable, rounded shape has earned them the nickname "smile taiyaki," and their appearance is both approachable and comforting. The fillings for their in-store products are made with 100% Hokkaido-grown sugar beets and the rare Shumari adzuki bean variety developed in the foothills of Hokkaido's Daisetsuzan mountain range (Kamikawa region). This meticulous attention to detail underpins the reliable quality of their taiyaki and the trust placed in the brand.
■ Enjoy grilled taiyaki on a charcoal grill with a variety of toppings for a new dining experience
This plan offers a new way to enjoy taiyaki that can only be found here. This time, Taiyaki Ikkyu Hokkaido is offering taiyaki made only from the dough. When you eat it, we recommend grilling it on a charcoal grill. With one bite, you'll enjoy a crispy texture and a mellow aroma. The dough has a slightly sweet seasoning, so it's delicious as is even without any fillings, but we have prepared a variety of original toppings from the hotel to make the dough even more delicious.
In addition to Japanese flavors such as "Chestnut, Matcha, Strawberry Sugar," "Strawberry with Sweet Bean Paste," and "Strawberry and Shiratama Zenzai," we have also incorporated a wide variety of Western-style variations such as "Strawberry, Chocolate Banana" and "Dried Strawberry Cheese." The chewy shiratama rice balls and the fresh texture of the banana and strawberry in the zenzai add a pleasant accent to the crisp outer texture of the dough. By topping each taiyaki with your favorite toppings according to your mood, you can create your own "little miniature garden" with each taiyaki, and enjoy the special dining experience of a variety of flavors and complex textures.
■ A variety of Japanese dishes covered in strawberries
The table is lined with a world of Japanese flavor, with strawberries everywhere you turn. From the signature taiyaki to sweets and savory dishes, each dish is carefully crafted to allow you to enjoy the combination of Japanese flavor and strawberry. The "Strawberry Sweet Bean Paste" and "Hokkaido Pumpkin Pudding with Strawberries" combine the tartness of vibrant strawberries with the gentle sweetness of Hokkaido pumpkin and bean paste, creating a taste that is somehow nostalgic yet new. Meanwhile, savory dishes such as "Blanched Strawberries and Green Vegetables" and "Otoshiki," a dish of tuna and the day's white fish served with strawberry salt, subtly enhance the flavor of the seasonal ingredients with the aroma and subtle sweetness of strawberries. The "Kyoto Chirashi Sushi" on the meal menu also features hints of strawberries, creating a visually appealing dish. Lupicia also offers five strawberry-scented flavors of tea, included in the complimentary drinks. Please take your time to experience the unique harmony of "Japanese x Strawberry," where sweetness and saltiness, Japanese flavors and the freshness of strawberries intersect.
Karamatsu's "Japanese Afternoon Tea" offers a unique and heartwarming experience, where you can experience roasting Japanese sweets and enjoy seasonal ingredients with all five senses. This plan allows you to experience the charm of the region while staying at the hotel, and also promotes the idea of local production and consumption. Previously, reservations were accepted for two people or more, but from now on, reservations can be made for one person or more. Please enjoy our afternoon tea, which has been carefully crafted to be delicious, aromatic, visually appealing, and enjoyable to eat.
