Featuring the popular art unit "Maywa Denki" for their unique, hands-on works, we will re-evaluate the relationship between Sapporo and "media arts." Events will be held during the opening weekend
The Sapporo International Art Festival 2024 (SIAF2024), which will be held in winter for the first time in six and a half years, will be held from January 20th (Saturday) to February 25th (Sunday), 2024, mainly at six major venues in Sapporo City. It will be held.
The Sapporo Art Museum will open in advance of other venues on Saturday, December 16, 2023. Two exhibitions will be held under the venue theme of "Media Arts Forest."
The “Maywa Denki Nonsense Machine Exhibition in Sapporo'' will be held in the exhibition room, and will feature “Nonsense Machines'' developed by Maywa Denki, a popular art unit known for its unique hands-on works.
In Exhibition Room B, entitled "Did you know that Sapporo is a city of media arts?", we will once again take a look at the technology and creative industries born in Sapporo, and introduce the ties between Sapporo and media arts.
To commemorate the advance opening, a video message from SIAF2024 Director Hideaki Ogawa and Maywa Denki President Nobuimichi Tosa will be released on the SIAF official YouTube channel at 19:00 on Friday, December 15th, the night before the opening.
- Exhibition room “Maywa Denki Nonsense Machine Exhibition in Sapporo”
Maywa Denki is an artistic unit that combines musical instruments and art in a stylish way. This exhibition brings together "Nonsense Machine" since its founding in 1993, and introduces the history of its activities that have turned presentation itself into art. You can touch and play with a number of humorous nonsense machines. A number of related events will be held on the weekends during the exhibition period, including workshops and mini-lives by Maywa Denki President Nobumichi Tosa.

Sapporo City, which is a member of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network as a “Media Arts City,'' has conducted a variety of activities not only in “art,'' but also in a wide range of areas such as “industry,'' “technology,'' and “urban space.'' In this exhibition, we will once again take a look at the technology and creative industries born in Sapporo, and introduce the connections between Sapporo and media arts.
