The 73rd Sapporo Snow Festival will be held from February 4th (Sat) to 11th (Sat/holiday), 2023 !
At the Odori 4-chome STV Plaza, the themes of "Hokkaido" and "Resurrection"
Full-size Tyrannosaurus and Kamuysaurus turned into snow sculptures in pure white!

Tyrannosaurus is the largest and strongest carnivorous dinosaur.
Large teeth lined up sharply. Its bite force exceeded 5 tons, and it crushed prey along with the bones.
In fact, it is a dinosaur related to Hokkaido, which is said to have lived in Hokkaido about 72 million years ago.

Standing beside him is Kamuysaurus, which was excavated from the Hobetsu district of Mukawa, Hokkaido, as Japan's first full-body skeletal fossil of a large plant-eating dinosaur. On September 6, 2019, it was named 'Kamuysaurus japonicus', including 'kamui', which means 'god' in the language of the indigenous Ainu people. Oddly enough, this day is also known as the "symbol of revival" as it marks exactly one year since the Hokkaido Eastern Iburi Earthquake, which caused enormous damage.

This large snow sculpture was created with the cooperation of Professor Kaiji Kobayashi of the Hokkaido University Museum, who is also known by the nickname “Dinosaur Kobayashi” among Japanese dinosaur fans. Enjoy the world view and each detail that makes you imagine Hokkaido about 72 million years ago, and think about the global environment in recent years.

The 3rd Snow Sculpture Production Committee of the Sapporo Snow Festival Large Snow Sculpture Production Committee, which has been working on various themes for nine years since its formation, is in charge of producing this large snow sculpture.
Using many years of experience and craftsmanship, this overwhelming force and delicate details are expressed in pure white snow.
