Sauna Town Sapporo-Hokkaido Finland Week Special-will be held for the first time in May in Sapporo!

Japan's largest Finnish sauna culture event will be held for the first time in Sapporo on May 28th (Sat) and 29th (Sun) in collaboration with "Finland, the home of the sauna" and "Sapporo, the city of sauna"!

2022 marks the 230th anniversary of the introduction of the Finnish sauna in Japan.
Based on this, the Finnish Weekend Executive Committee, which is composed of the Commerce Department of the Embassy of Finland, KM Project Co., Ltd., Sapporo Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and other related organizations and companies, sponsors the food, culture, activities, etc. of Finland, the home of the sauna. We will hold "Sapporo, the City of Sauna-Hokkaido Finland Week Special-" in Chateraise Gateaux Kingdom Sapporo in collaboration with the outdoor sauna event.

[Sauna to be set up at the venue]
■ Finnish tent sauna <br /> It is very important for Finns to bathe in leil (steam) and listen to the sound of leil.
You can forget about your worries by listening to the sound of the evaporating water that you have spilled on your own.
The Finnish tent sauna is not sealed, so you can fully enjoy the leil while maintaining proper ventilation and humidity.

■ Sauna bath

"Camping Sauna Bath" where you can enjoy the first full-scale sauna in the car. Made in Toma Town Born from the "Totono" Town Sauna Project, it has a camp space and a sauna space, and is equipped with a full-scale sauna room. "Todomatsu" from Toma Town is used for the interior, and you can enjoy the scent of wood. The specially designed sauna stove also has a sauna stone, so you can enjoy the "leil" that sprinkles water to generate steam.

The development concept is "again, totou, cider", and it is a de-class "sadori (sauna drink)" that has all the names, designs, prices, etc. in the sauna.
"Tokachi Cider", which is popular for the local cider series that is particular about the charm of Tokachi, was developed together with "Tokachi Sauna Council". Sauna culture, which is registered as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage, is a very important space to spend with friends and family on weekends and summer vacation, and it is a custom to connect with nature. Actually, there is a historical fact that this SAUNA was already introduced in Hokkaido in 1792 in Japan.

In 1783, a ship carrying 17 people, including the boatman Daikokuya Kodayu, headed for Edo from Ise Shirako Port (Suzuka City, Mie Prefecture), and was washed ashore in the Aleutian Islands due to a storm on the way. Kodayu and his colleagues were requested by Russia to live permanently, but did not give up returning to Japan. What changed their fate was the encounter with scholar and businessman Kirill Laxmann from Finland (Savonlinna).

Thanks to Cyril's efforts, an audience with Catherine II was granted and she was allowed to return home. Cyril's son Adam Laxman will accompany him as one of Russia's first envoys to Japan. Japan, which was isolated, did not allow entry, and the mission was to overwinter on the coast of Nemuro. One of the facilities built at that time was SAUNA.

This is the background behind the encounter of Japanese people in the sauna, and there was a story of friendship that transcended national borders.
