As the number of tatami rooms decreases due to the corona, the Sapporo Meikoren continues to practice geisha every day in order to protect the inherited geisha art. Sapporo Park Hotel wants to support the activity, and by creating a place for geisha to show off, we have planned to widely disseminate the state of the activity and play a role in supporting the activity.
This event was held with the cooperation of the Sapporo Geisha Development Promotion Association, whose secretariat is the Sapporo Chamber of Commerce and Industry. ■ Background of event planning In Susukino, which was once one of the leading flower districts in Japan, it is said that in the 1950s, when it was at its peak, there were more than 40 restaurants with tatami rooms and more than 300 geisha. However, due to changes in social and economic conditions, the place of activity has gradually disappeared, and the number of geisha has been steadily decreasing, leaving only a dozen people. As a result, the inheritance of skills cultivated over many years is in jeopardy. In consideration of the need to constantly pass on the lights of traditional geisha culture to future generations and the increasing number of foreign tourists visiting Japan who are interested in Japanese culture, this project will revitalize tourism in After Corona and promote local tourism. Sapporo Park Hotel will support activities together with the Sapporo Geisha Development Promotion Association in order to create a place for young people to develop and play an active role as a contribution to attracting people.
