In Odori Park, that is located in the central area of Sapporo city, dramatic sculptures of snow and ice are exhibited on the street for 1.5 km long. The works of art made out of white snow and transparent ice offer overwhelming power, and viewers can feel each sculptor’s thought and feeling. The massive elaborate works of art with many details are the main feature of Sapporo Snow Festival.
The festival offers a variety of events, and there are unique sculptures made by different types of groups; such as, the huge snow sculpture used as a television studio during the festival period, sculptures made by Sapporo citizens, and sculptures made by participants of the International Snow Sculpture Contest.
The sculptures show its beauty differently in daytime with reflected sunlight and in evening with romantic artificial lights. In these years, projection mapping on huge snow sculptures attracts large audience. It is strongly recommended for you to enjoy the festival both in daytime and evening if time allows.
