JR Sapporo Station

  • The base station of JR trains bound for stations in inland and coastal areas in all directions. It also connects to Chitose Line that goes to New Chitose Airport Terminal
  • Terminal bus stop is adjacent to the station.
  • Sapporo Stations of subway Namboku Line and Toho Line are located underground.

Guide to subway Sapporo station from JR Sapporo station

From East ticket gate

  • Go down to the basement floor via the subway passageway located near the ticket gate.
  • Going forward to ESTA direction, you will find subway entrance. Enter and go down, and then you will find ticket vending machines and ticket gates of Toho Line. It takes about 5 minutes.

From West ticket gate

  • Turn to the left at the ticket gate, and go toward the elevator of Daimaru department store, and then go down to the basement floor. Go forward, and you will find North ticket gate of Namboku Line
  • To Toho Line ticket gate, pass the Namboku Line ticket gate by, and go forward to south direction and go along the path that turns to the left (South ticket gate of Namboku Line is located on the right). And then go forward, and you will find Toho Line. It takes about 10 minutes. Signs of Toho Line and Namboku Line are blue and green respectively.

Subway Odori Station

This station is served by Namboku Line, Toho Line, and Tozai Line.

Public Transportation in the city of Sapporo

Subways

There are three subway lines in total. Major destinations for each line are stated below.

  • Namboku Line: Susukino, Nakajima koen, Makomanai
  • Toho Line: Sapporo Dome
  • Tozai Line: Maruyama koen

Fares

Depends on destination.

  • Subway one-day pass: 830 yen. Valid for one day for all 3 subway lines. Available at ticket vending machines and commuter pass counter
  • Donichika-kip: 520yen, valid for one day limited to Sat., Sun., or holiday, for all 3 subway lines. Available at ticket vending machines, commuter pass counters, and station offices with a sign of “Donichika-kip”.

How to Ride

How to buy a ticket is the same as you do at JR stations. There is a train map shows all fares to go to each station. Buy a ticket and go through a ticket gate of your platform.

Circular Route Buses

There are 2 types of circular route buses in the city of Sapporo.

  • [Sapporo Walk] Available all year round. Starts at Sapporo Station from 7:08 to 23:08. Bus comes every 20 minutes.
  • [Sapporo Sansaku Bus] Available from early July to mid October. Starts at the terminal bus stop in front of JR Sapporo Station from 9:30 to 16:30. Bus comes every hour.

Fares

1 Ride Base Fare: 210 yen

One-day pass (valid for both buses): 750 yen / Available in a bus, at tourist counter located on the 2nd floor of Chuo-bus Sapporo-ekimae Terminal, and at Sapporo, Asabu, Fukuzumi, and Oyachi terminal bus stops.

How to Ride

Wait for a bus at a Sapporo Walk bus stop. Get on the bus and put 210 yen in the fare box, or show the driver your one-day pass.

Other than circular route buses, there is [Toshinnai 100 yen Bus] which runs within designated area, for example from Sapporo to Susukino, for 100 yen per ride.

The Sapporo Streetcar (Sapporo Shiden)

In Chuo-ku located in the southwestern part of Sapporo, the Sapporo Streetcar runs from Nishi-Yonchome Dentei (Dentei stands for streetcar station) to Susukino Dentei, making a circle-like route. There also are Ropeway-iriguchi Dentei close to the mountain foot station of “Moiwayama-Ropeway” and Nakajima-koen Dentei close to Nakajima Park. It runs from around 6:30 to around 23:00. Streetcar comes every 6-8 minutes.

Fare

1 Ride Base Fare: 170 yen

[Dosanko Pass (one-day pass valid on Saturday and holiday)]: 310 yen / Available in streetcar and at Odori commuter pass counter.

How to Ride

Get on a streetcar at Dentei and put 170 yen in the fare box, or show the driver your one-day pass.

Taxi

It is not difficult to catch a taxi in tourist spots including JR Sapporo station. Starting fare is 670 yen (for first 1.6km). Some owner-driver taxis offer various courses for tourists.

JR Hokkaido Bus

In the city of Sapporo (including Burari-Sapporo-Kanko-Bus) Sapporo to Otaru / Ebetsu / Kita-hisoshima (except for those bound for Kita-hiroshima Sta. – Naganuma) “Ichinichi Norihodai Kippu” (one-day pass for Teineyama Line) is available.

Fare

800 yen / Available in a bus (ask the driver), at Travel Center shops in Apia and Shin-Sapporo, at bus offices (except Samani office).
